Effective January 1, 2024, the CTA mandates certain small businesses to disclose information about the company, its beneficial owners, and possibly the company applicant. Reporting companies are those with twenty or fewer employees formed through state paperwork filings. Since the CTA’s inception, we’ve learned a few things we think are important.
Does the CTA Apply to Your Small Business?
It’s very possible. The CTA applies to companies formed through state filings, typically including corporations and limited liability companies. Depending on the state, it may also include other entity types, yet some exemptions may apply.
Information Required in the Reports
The CTA requires three pieces of information in the reports:
- Company details,
- Beneficial owner information, and
- Applicant information
Noncompliance with the CTA can result in legal hassles, significant financial penalties and imprisonment. We want to help you avoid non-compliance.
