One of the important things you do when you create your Legal Life PlanTM is name the trustee or trustees of your estate. These are the people you trust (ha!) to make decisions about your property and healthcare if you aren’t able to do so. Deciding on who these people are who would make these critical decisions is a big step and not one to be taken lightly. You want to ensure you’ve found the right people for the job.

Being a trustee is not something just anyone can do. You need to find people who can make good choices, honor your wishes, and who are dependable. It’s not as simple as it sounds, either. It’s more than just showing up, though it doesn’t take an expert to act as a trustee.

Besides common sense and good judgment, you want to name someone who’s going to be around. When you need them, they need to be able to be found. So be sure to take into account the individuals age and health. You don’t want them to be incapacitated themselves when it comes time.

After you name that initial person in your documents, you’ll want to check back. Relationships change, people change, and definitely, their health can change. You’ve done the work to get the Legal Life PlanTM in place, but don’t let things lapse so they become useless.

We’d love to help you choose the right trustee and take care of the documentation necessary. We also want those trustees to know how best to do their jobs. That’s why we offer regular training on how to be a trustee. Contact our office today to learn more about naming or being a trustee.
