Medicare 2026: What’s Changing and Why You Need to Review Your Plan Now

Every year, Medicare changes, and these updates can directly impact your doctors, prescriptions, premiums, and out-of-pocket costs. Yet many Idaho seniors don’t realize how much a single overlooked change can impact their health coverage or wallet. The 2026 changes are significant.

In this episode of the Senior Matters Podcast, estate planning attorney Mark E. Wight talks with Medicare specialist Chad McDonald about the important updates for Medicare in 2026 and why it’s critical to review your plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (October 15 – December 7). Together, they explore how to make confident, informed decisions that protect your health and financial security in the coming year.

From rising Part B deductibles and carrier exits in Idaho, to shifting formularies and new Medicare Advantage options, Chad and Mark explain how these changes could affect you even if you’ve had the same plan for years. They discuss the key differences between Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans and Medicare Advantage plans, the pros and cons of each, and why what worked last year might not be the best fit today.

You’ll also learn how Idaho’s Birthday Rule allows beneficiaries to switch Supplement plans without underwriting, and how working with a licensed Medicare agent can make the process simple, and it’s completely free for seniors.

Don’t let automatic renewals or confusing plan options catch you off guard. Take time this fall to connect with your Medicare representative, review your current coverage, and ensure your plan still fits your health needs and budget.
